Seal Bay, Kangaroo Island

The last time I came to Seal Bay, I have a vague memory of walking over a huge sand dune, then seeing some seals on the beach. These days it is much more fancy. Look at this huge boardwalk down to the seal area!

My boys saw this as a great opportunity to have a race.

Look at these cool bones, they look like a type of dinosaur's! They are of of young humpback whale that caught on the beach.

Kangaroo Island had three types of seal on the island. Australian sea lions, Australian fur seals and New Zealand fur seals. The sea lions prefer the sandy back where as the fur seals like rocks (pictures of the fur seals coming soon).

How cute are these little sea lions! They stayed together the whole time we were down.

How cute is this photo of a Mother and baby.

Here you can seethe beach with a whole lot of seals. It took a while for us to work out which were the makes and which were the females.

Here is a seal coming out of the water.

It was such a lovely place to visit. So beautiful.

Here is just a random picture of the clouds, they were like little cotton balls that day! :)

Toowoomba Flower Festival

I have always wanted to go to the Toowomba Flower Festival which is held each spring. But as it is scheduled in the school holidays each year it doesn't really work out.

However this year I was passing through, just at the right time. So I caught up with my old friend Rochelle Catalini and her boys and we headed out to Queens Park. It was a brave move with 5 boys between us (I had one with Nan) and we only managed a quick stroll thorugh the flowers as my boys wrestled and chased one another. But it was so nice to see! I really love flowers. It was great to catch up with Rochelle and see her kids too.

Rochelle, Hyrum and me...

How beatuiful are these tulips!

More beautiful tulips...

Rochelle taking photo of beautiful tulips...

Lots of older people looking at flowers, note: not many other Mums braved the gardens with their kids.

I like this flower bed of all differnt types of flowers.

I think these are delphiniums...

Rochelle and Hyrum. He was so well behaved!

These two little cuties, Hayden and Liam, were still for the camera for a minute.

My boys about to wrestle (luckily they didn't fall into the flower bed)...

Seth with his robot dance moves... (do my kids seem a little hypo to you?)

My boys happy at last, up a tree! Can you see them? Poor Hyrum and Liam are not quite tall enough to get up yet.

Anyway it a slightly stressful but fun time. Hopefully one day I can do it, minus children, and really have a good look. But it was still fun. Thanks Rochelle for putting up with us!

Dubbo's Open Plains Zoo: Part Two

These monkeys (or apes?) live on the little island here. They gave a great display of strength and noise, apparently to tell us 'this was there territory'.

You can see the ear just below the mouth of the female. It helped make a lot of noise.

Here are some Bison!! I've never seen Bison before, not even when I went to the US.

Here is one if the Safari golf buggies you could hire to drive around in. They looked pretty fun! Though not when it was raining.

Mark and Ben entering the Australian animal exhibit.

 An awake koala!

 A little echidna ...

 Another koala.

Hayden couldn't wait to see the big tortoises. They are from the Galapagos's Island.

 An even bigger tortoise...

The meerkat feeding and information talk.

Here we are with the last African elephant left in Australia. They had 3 elephants here, I think they were all handed in from circuses. Here she is waving her trunk to say hello.

The boys playing on some elephant statues.

The boys tired after a big day.
